Introducing Smith Collective – Australia’s first renters community

Residential transformation reinvents renting

At the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct we have innovation in our DNA and the launch of the Precinct’s Smith Collective – Australia’s first build-to-rent community –  is all about innovation in the way people live.

Smith Collective, the transformed Gold Coast 2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village, will be a vibrant residential and retail village and an ideal place to live, work, study and play, with rentals commencing from January 2019.

Bringing the emerging trend in the US and Europe of long-term, stable renting to Australia for the first time, global real estate innovators JLL are promising renters both security and a value-add lifestyle, with Smith Collective billed as much more than a place to live for the 2,500 residents who will call the community home.

Under the model, all 1252 units and townhouses will be tenanted and residents will have access to a range of community health and lifestyle amenities, including a unique  retail and dining precinct that will enliven the main streets and help create a 24/7 environment for collaboration, inspiration and recreation.

Seven hectares of parkland with walking paths and public art surround the residences and the vibrant village heart is flanked by the 9.5 hectares that are being developed for health and knowledge commercial investment.

The new community offers residents exclusive access to a community centre, rooftop terrace, BBQ’s, four pools, gym and fitness areas and there’s even a running track.

A program of events will create a real community atmosphere and celebrate the enviable Gold Coast lifestyle.

To find out more and register for upcoming free events – Friday Night Bites and Saturday Family Fun Days visit Smith Collective.

Singapore a sweet opportunity for medtech

Austrade Medtech Delegation with Hon Karen Andrews MP, Minister for Industry, Science and Technology (centre), September 2018

GCHKP joins Minister-led delegation to Singapore

Singapore is a global economic hub and one of Australia’s closest trading partners, the largest in the ASEAN (Association of Southeast Asian Nations).

GCHKP Project Director Di Dixon joined a high-level Austrade delegation, led by the Hon Karen Andrews MP, Minister for Industry, Science and Technology in late September to advance opportunities for commercial partnerships in science and technology, with a focus on Medtech and 3D printing technologies.

The delegation, which also included promising Australian medtech start-ups looking to tap into Singapore and ASEAN nation markets took part in the Good Science – Great Business Festival to promote commercialisation opportunities.

Singapore is ranked 6th overall as a source of foreign direct investment (FDI) into Australia.

A  hub for electronics, chemical and engineering industries, Singapore is investing in its R&D and manufacturing capacity in Life Sciences, as a fourth pillar of its manufacturing expertise, with the Singaporean government investing $750 million in biotechnology research institutes.

The $80 million Singapore Centre for 3D Printing (SC3DP), housed in Nanyang Technological University (NTU)  is the region’s largest R&D facility in additive manufacturing  in terms of faculty and equipment and has established long-term research partnerships with companies in the aerospace, marine & offshore, building construction and process management industries.

Project Director Di Dixon toured the state-of-the-art facility to consider synergies and partnership opportunities for the Precinct’s planned Advanced Design and Prototyping Technologies Centre (ADaPT) and discovered the sweet opportunities – among its many advanced capabilities the SC3DP also prints chocolate!

Gold Coast a new hub for clinical trials

From Phase 1 human trials for a Malaria vaccine, to studies aimed at treating osteoporosis and a number of trials into innovative life-saving stroke treatment, the GCHKP is fast gaining a reputation as a leading location for clinical trials.

And led by the world-leading Institute for Glycomics at Griffith University, there’s real potential for the city to be the home of a new blockbuster drug.

The trial of a malaria vaccine developed by the Institute’s Professor Michael Good could potentially save millions of lives and is the most well-known study to date, and a variety of trials occurring across both the Gold Coast University Hospital (GCUH) and the university offer the promise of exciting innovations targeting a diversity of diseases and health conditions.
