Cohort a new hub for co-working and innovation

Cohort will be the place to be for start-ups and innovators

Calling innovative start-ups and emerging innovators – the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct has a new space for you!

The vibrant buildings that housed the the hair salon, convenience store, media space and police station of the GC2018 Commonwealth Games Athletes Village are being converted into a flexible coworking space and startup incubator to be known as Cohort.

From April 2019 the space will be abuzz with meetings and events, collaboration and innovation, as professional co-working operators CoSpace establish community management, following a deal with the Queensland Palaszczuk Government.

Minister for State Development, Manufacturing, infrastructure and Planning Cameron Dick says the buildings were undergoing a fitout to support around 200 desks for health and knowledge startups, coworking and entrepreneurial businesses. The facility will also be used as a landing space for global companies looking to establish local partnerships and eventually move into separate leases in the Precinct.

“It’s the perfect addition to the Health and Knowledge Precinct and will help reduce overheads for small businesses who would otherwise have to lease their own space,” Mr Dick says.

Cohort will feature meeting rooms, collaboration and event spaces and private pods, and when open in April 2019 will allow like-minded businesses to grow by promoting networking, mentoring, innovation and collaboration.”

Minister for Innovation and the Commonwealth Games Kate Jones says the launch of Cohort would be another major milestone in the development of the Precinct.

“Startups are crucial to creating jobs on the Gold Coast. That’s why we’re committed to making this precinct a world-leading hub for new ideas.

“We’re investing in projects like this to diversify the Gold Coast’s economy, and to ensure our investment in the Games continues to pay off for locals.”

CoSpaces CEO Ben Howe is excited about the opportunity to be part of the unique Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

“The formation of dedicated areas for technology and innovation is crucial to the Gold Coast’s coming of age,” Mr Howe says.
