A beating heart marks medical breakthrough

The surgical team behind BiVACORs first total artificial heart implant

On 9 July 2024, the BiVACOR team and the Texas Heart Institute celebrated the successful implantation of a total artificial heart, marking a new era in cardiac care and offering hope to thousands of patients awaiting heart transplants. The heart successfully kept the patient alive for 8 days, before it was removed and replaced by a donor heart, in keeping with the Early Feasibility Study requirements.

The trial has been decades in the making, and marks an important turning point in the development and testing of the BiVACOR total artificial heart.

BiVACOR’s international headquarters are based in the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, where the BiVACOR team work alongside leading collaborators at the Griffith University mechanobiology lab.
