The Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct (GCHKP) was proud to host senior leaders from the Queensland Department of Environment, Tourism, Science and Innovation (DETSI) for a dynamic site visit showcasing the depth of innovation and collaboration shaping our ecosystem.

Innovation on Show

The DETSI delegation included Director-General Patricia O’Callaghan and Deputy Directors-General Mark Jacobs and Jasmine Vreugdenburg. Their visit began with a meeting alongside our Strategic Advisory Group before moving into a fast-paced tour of some of the Precinct’s standout locations.

At NeuTex Image-Guided Therapy, Surgical Training and Robotics Centre, Dr Hal Rice and Dr Laetitia de Villiers demonstrated the cutting-edge work in neurovascular intervention and robotic surgical training that is helping to place the Gold Coast on the global map for medical innovation.

The team also visited Cohort Innovation Space, where they connected with some of our high-growth startups, highlighting the strength of our entrepreneurial pipeline and the collaborative energy between research, health, and industry.

Life-Changing Research

The visit wrapped up with a tour of Project BioSpine, where Dr Claudio Pizzolato and Dr Ronak Reshamwala shared powerful updates on their pioneering clinical trials aimed at restoring movement and function after spinal cord injury.

Growing Recognition

The visit reflected the growing recognition of the GCHKP as a leading hub for innovation, commercialisation, and translational research in Queensland. With strong alignment to DETSI’s vision, the Precinct continues to accelerate future-focused impact through bold ideas, strong partnerships, and a thriving ecosystem.
