The Gold Coast is rapidly building a global reputation as a hub for health and medical innovation and nowhere is that more evident than in the Precinct’s very own NeuTex Image-Guided Therapy, Surgical Training and Robotics Centre.

This August, NeuTex played a key role in hosting Neuro Exchange 2025, the largest neurointerventional gathering in Australasia. More than 80 leading interventional neuroradiologists from across Australia and New Zealand came together with senior representatives from Medtronic, the world’s largest medical device company, to discuss cutting-edge treatments for stroke and brain aneurysms.

Global collaboration, local leadership

Gold Coast’s 2024 Australian of the Year, Dr Hal Rice, Director of Interventional Neuroradiology at Gold Coast University Hospital, co-hosted the event with Dr Laetitia de Villiers, Director of Neurosurgery. Together, they welcomed Linnea Burman, Global Vice President and President of Neurovascular (USA), and Nadine Hans, Senior Director of Strategy and Marketing (Europe), showcasing the Gold Coast’s capability and commitment to advancing minimally invasive brain procedures.

Held at The Langham Gold Coast and within the NeuTex Centre at the GCHKP, the three-day event not only cemented the city’s status as a host for major medical conferences but also spotlighted its future role in training the next generation of neurointerventional specialists across Asia-Pacific.

“Our vision is to train specialist physicians from across the region in the latest techniques in a dedicated facility,” said Dr Rice. “Medtronic will be a key partner in bringing physicians to the Gold Coast and developing cutting-edge technologies that continually improve life-saving treatments.”

From local facility to global force

The NeuTex Centre, co-located with Gold Coast University Hospital, is evolving into a global training powerhouse. Dr Rice is currently working with Medtronic to film and produce international-standard clinical training content, amplifying the Centre’s expertise across borders. This is in addition to a number of world-first-in-human trials already conducted by the NeuTex team, including robotic stroke clot removal and aneurysm repair.

A growing legacy of innovation

Backed by world-class clinical leaders, cutting-edge equipment, and global partnerships, NeuTex is contributing to a broader precinct-wide momentum, from robotic surgeries and neurovascular trials to medical device development and training excellence.

As part of the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, NeuTex continues to embody the GCHKP’s vision of collaborative innovation with global impact.
