From research to reality: Flo Axiom emerges from the Precinct

A major milestone for Griffith University has taken shape, with Flo Axiom officially emerging as a university spinout built on years of research, collaboration and momentum.

The company is based on technology developed at Griffith University’s Institute for Biomedicine and Glycomics by Professor Bernd Rehm and Dr Stefanie Buchholz, who now steps into the role of Chief Scientific Officer as the work moves beyond the lab and into market application.

For the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct, this is exactly what success looks like in practice.

This journey didn’t happen overnight. What started as deep research has been shaped through real-world engagement, including participation in the LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator. That experience helped refine the commercial pathway, connect with industry, and build the foundations needed to take the next step.

Now, with investment secured, Flo Axiom is moving forward as a company focused on improving the manufacturing of complex therapies. By addressing key challenges in purification, the technology has the potential to reduce cost and improve access to advanced treatments at scale.

It’s also a strong reflection of how the ecosystem works when everything connects.

From research at Griffith, to acceleration through Cohort Innovation Space, and commercialisation support from Griffith Enterprise, this is a clear example of collaboration turning into real outcomes.

For the precinct, it’s an important moment. Not just because of the company itself, but because it shows the full pipeline in action, from idea to impact.

And it reinforces something we’re seeing more and more. The Gold Coast isn’t just a place where great research happens. It’s a place where it becomes something bigger.
