NRL partnership strengthens Sportstech momentum at the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct

A new partnership between the National Rugby League (NRL) and LuminaX HealthTech Accelerator is opening up a direct pathway for startups to engage with elite sport from within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct.

Delivered by Cohort Innovation Space, LuminaX has always worked across the intersection of health, performance and technology. This partnership builds on that foundation, bringing the NRL into the ecosystem and strengthening how founders develop solutions for high-performance environments.

It gives startups something hard to replicate. Real-world context. Direct insight into the physical demands of elite sport. And the opportunity to test and refine their ideas against those expectations.

For founders working across areas like injury prevention, concussion and brain health, recovery, performance analytics and athlete wellbeing, that kind of access makes a difference. It helps move ideas beyond theory and into solutions that are both clinically relevant and commercially viable.

What’s equally important is where this work is happening.

Within the precinct, startups are already connected to clinicians, researchers and industry partners. The addition of the NRL strengthens that network, creating another layer of collaboration that helps accelerate ideas into real-world impact.

And while the starting point may be elite sport, the outcomes often extend much further. Many of these technologies translate directly into healthcare settings, supporting rehabilitation, preventative health and improved long-term outcomes for the wider community.

With the Brisbane 2032 Olympic and Paralympic Games on the horizon, the role of Sportstech is only growing. Partnerships like this position the Gold Coast as a place where that growth is not just happening, but being actively shaped.

For the 2026 LuminaX cohort, it’s a chance to build in an environment that’s connected, collaborative and grounded in real-world application.

And that’s ultimately what sets the precinct apart. It’s not just about innovation in isolation. It’s about bringing the right people together to turn strong ideas into outcomes that improve performance, health and lives.
