Stories, legacy and the power of place

at the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct

In our 25th milestone year, we are capturing the voices and wisdom that shape this precinct. This is our living Legacy Wall, built from real reflections, lessons and moments people want to pass on.

What is a Legacy Wall?

This page is a time capsule of what our community chooses to pass on.

A lesson learned.
A moment of encouragement.
A promise to leave things better.
A piece of wisdom someone else should not have to learn the hard way.

You will see short videos and written reflections from people across the Precinct sharing what they have learned and what they want others to carry forward.

“Hi, I’m Gemma Bull, and I’m the Admin Officer at the Gold Coast Health & Knowledge Precinct. If I could pass one thing on to the next woman, it would be this: don’t underestimate how valuable you are just because your work happens behind the scenes. The impact is real — even when it’s not always visible.”

Gemma Bull – Administration Officer, Gold Coast Health & Knowledge Precinct

“I have been very fortunate in having worked with some amazing female leaders throughout my entire career, across a number of industries. These women helped me since very early on in my working life by backing me publicly and mentoring me privately. That balance of trust and honest feedback has given me the confidence to grow while still learning from mistakes.”

Brett Archer – Executive Officer, Industry Engagement & Partnerships, Griffith University Health Group

“If I could pass one thing on to the next woman, it would be…believe in yourself, totally – always be willing to step out of your comfort zone and challenge yourself, you might be surprised where it leads”.

Jan WaylandSnr Research coordinator, Research Development team, Research Office, Gold Coast Health

“One way I try to leave things better is through my deep belief in the power of education and community support to change lives. In my role, I see every day how collective generosity creates opportunities for others who might otherwise miss out.”
Claire Stokes – Director Industry Engagement & Partnerships (Health), Griffith University
“One way I try to leave things better is by being visible and of service to others. Growing up, I didn’t always see women, or women who looked like me, in spaces like this and now I understand that simply showing up — confidently and authentically — I can shift what feels possible for someone else. I carry my faith, family, culture, and community with me. If I can open a door and hold it for the next woman, then I’ve done something meaningful.”
Ana Veamatahau – Executive Assistant to the Vice President, Industry and External Engagement, Griffith University
