Where Knowledge Has Always Lived
For more than 60,000 years, knowledge, healing and innovation have existed on this land. Long before modern healthcare systems, the Kombumerri people, part of the broader Yugambeh language region, developed deep understandings of health, environment and wellbeing, grounded in observation, balance and care for community. Today, that legacy continues within the Gold Coast Health and Knowledge Precinct. Through partnerships between health, education and research, we are building new ways to care for people. But at its core, this work reflects something much older. The importance of connection, shared knowledge and responsibility to community. This story is a reminder that innovation here didn’t begin with buildings or institutions. It began with Country, and it continues through the people who learn, work and care here today.
